With this past week coming to a close, we have finally reached the beginning of E3; the years biggest gaming convention where studios and companies show off the latest in new games, DLC, and plans for the future! Earlier this week, however, Netherrealm Studios leaked some exciting news for it’s latest, upcoming game. That’s right everyone, we are going to get another turn to take Batman, the Flash, Superman, and all of their allies and enemies for another brawl in Injustice 2! How epic does that sound?!
Injustice: God’s Among Us was Netherrealm Studios return to a DC fighting platform, with its first being Mortal Kombat v.s. DC. The original game featured numerous superheroes and villains from all across the DC universe duking it out in Mortal Kombat style fighting (minus all of the blood and the fatalities and the death, lol). We remember how much fun it was to play the likes of Catwoman or the Joker and just wreck our foes with intense and fun combos that each featured signature moves and styles that matched the character. Not to mention the various costumes and outfits that came out as DLC and hearkened to the classic comics and beyond!
The backstory of Injustice (*Spoiler Alert*) features two parts, one “normal” timeline and the alternate timeline. In the alternate timeline, the Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane and his child along with detonating a nuclear bomb within Metropolis. This follows Batman’s failure to stop Superman from killing the Joker and leading half of the Justice League into a full on global takeover. Superman becomes a dictator and enslaves the world under his rule and Batman leads the Insurgency, a group with plans to overthrow them. The Insurgency discovers an alternate timeline in which the Joker failed to detonate the bomb and brings the other characters into their universe in an attempt to assist them in overthrowing Superman and preventing him from turning evil in the first place. The story, although short, is an amazing take on the DC universe and we look forward to the story in the sequel.
After viewing the gameplay video, Injustice 2 appears to be run on a similar engine to MKX and seems to feature the same banter intros that appeared in the refreshed classic. In the gameplay trailer below, we see Aquaman battling Gorilla Grodd and Black Manta later in the video along with Supergirl facing off against the Red Lantern Atrocitus. We look forward to the full roster and more footage to see what else the game has to offer, as well as where the next story is going to take us after the original. So are you excited to take your supers and villains on again in Injustice 2? I know we are! Look forward to more news next week as we dive into some of E3’s reveals and updates to titles coming out this year. Let us know what you think or what you’re excited to see revealed in the comments below! Happy gaming!
