Injustice 2 Update: Release Date and More!

Howdy fellow gamers! We last covered the Injustice Reveal at E3 2016, which showcased very little about the game aside from the revelation of 4 new characters coming to the franchise and some tidbits about gameplay. Mysterious, right? However, since E3 several more characters have been revealed, including Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Blue Beetle, Deadshot and my all time favorite Poison Ivy. Yes, Poison Ivy! This week, a story trailer was released showcasing the big bad of the game and included some more revelations regarding characters, roster size, pre-order bonuses, and more. Without further ado, here is our vetted Injustice 2 preview giving you a little insight as to what what we know so far about the new title.

Injustice: Gods Among Us, after full DLC releases, boasted a roster of 29 playable heroes and baddies, which could also be redressed into different costumes to turn them into alter egos, alternate characters that have held that title (ie. John Stewart for Green Lantern), and complete makeovers into villains (Reverse Flash). The base roster in Injustice 2, however, includes 31 playable characters and 9 announced DLC characters to be supported over the course of the game cycle, bringing the official tally to 40. What’s even more exciting is that Injustice 2 will feature premium skins for your favorite characters, transforming them and their voices into alter egos or different characters. So far, the Power Girl, John Stewart, and Reverse Flash skins have been announced for the game, with only more to come. Before the story video release this week, only 11 characters were confirmed; since, however, the story video has brought the confirmed total up to 16, and are as follows: Aquaman, Atrocitus, Bane, Batman, Blue Beetle, Brainiac, Darkseid, Deadshot, Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Robin, Supergirl, Superman, Wonder Woman — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! More rumored characters include Captain Cold or Mr. Freeze, John Constantine, and even some of the Watchmen may even make it to a console near you! As an awesome side-feature, these new characters will feature epic and witty banter amongst them, akin to the characters we’ve grown to love in Mortal Kombat X.

Gear System:

One of the cooler new features shipping within Injustice 2 is a completely designed gear system, allowing you to level up your characters and make them better in particular areas! The gear will randomly drop, and will also change the appearance of your character. For instance, Superman has gear to transform his costume to appear more like the Red Son, and so on. As seen throughout many other games such as CS:GO and League of Legends, these “skin concepts” has the potential to be good or bad, as fighting games thrive on balance (for the most part) and a randomized gear system could potentially wreck the game or turn it into a pay-to-play type scheme, like Overwatch, Hearthstone, and other games involving micro-transactions. While there is still time for Netherrealm to flesh out the details and tweak the system, only playing with the system will determine whether it is potentially game breaking. One important thing to note however that is exciting about the gear system is the potential to earn costume accents and costume changes for some of your characters beyond a simple reskin! Will Batman become more armored with more gear, or will Bane be bigger or pumping different colored venom? We’ll have to wait and see!

Pre-Order Bonuses and Release:injcool

Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017, so there is plenty of time to speculate about the roster and be on the lookout for more revelations and gameplay videos. There are currently 3 versions of the game being made available at launch, the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions. In the standard edition, if you preorder, you will be gifted with Darkseid as a preorder bonus. In the Deluxe edition, in addition to Darkseid, you will be gifted with 3 of the future DLC characters and the Power Girl reskin for Supergirl and a “shader” pack for your roster. Lastly with the Ultimate edition, you will be given all the aforementioned content in addition to 6 more DLC characters, reskins of John Stewart and the Reverse Flash, and the second “shader” pack for your roster. So, what do you guys think? Who else will join our DC heroes and villains as they battle against each other and Brainiac? We’re excited to see of what you think of the game so far!
