Destiny 2 on PC has been out for nearly a week, so it’s time to evaluate. I have also been playing this game on Xbox 1 because I was so excited, I simply couldn’t wait. Here’s the disappointing and huge difference, the PC is late to the party on everything, so you’ll have delayed release of the raid content, just like Xbox did, over a month ago. However, the graphics and feel on the PC are so much better than the Xbox 1. If you’re new to the game, and you’re not sure what character you want to play, read my other blog, What Guardian Are You?
This is my overall review of Destiny 2 on PC and Xbox 1, roughly, the first thirty hours of the game are exhilarating. Exploring the new content, playing through the story, and getting to dig into your slightly revamped class feels amazing. After that, you really fall into the grind, where you’re not getting anything extraordinary. You can very quickly get to max light level, then you’re left getting small upgrades or even just cosmetics. Then you drone through what feels the same over and over for the minuscule rewards. While I haven’t experience the raid on PC, on Xbox 1 my team and I quickly cleared through. Which while it felt great for a moment, it’s really disheartening to clear what is now their end-game content (until more DLC).
This game may be perfect for the casual gamer, a fun game to pop in and enjoy with friends; but in its current state, Destiny 2 lacks the draw that many other MMORPGs have, you will burn out and quickly be looking for something more engaging to play. There isn’t that immersive experience, which means your Fire Team is what is going to make this game great…without them, this game doesn’t have much to entertain the single player.
So, is it worth it? It really depends what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a fun, casual game to kick it with friends, then yes, it’s worth it. If you’re looking for a serious, immersive MMORPG, then this is not the game.
